Sometimes, for reasons unknown to us at first, our hearts feel very heavy, our minds uninspired and our bodies tired. The world seems to lack colour and we seem to lack motivation to do anything.
In moments like these, it is important to remember one thing: Everything is temporary.
Your mood and outlook on life is temporary, this feeling of sadness tormenting you is temporary, your state of unhappiness is temporary – all can change and shift within days.
Some days, it is just a mood swing or a bad day, that makes us grumpy and unhappy. Some days we realize that it is something deeper, that needs to change, in order to feel happy again.
I have been there. I remember me typing into google many years back, how I could get back to being happy again – yes, I went there. And it actually helped me.
So, if you are in need of a little inspiration, what you could change in order to be happy again, I thought long and hard about what helped me back then.
My 5 Simple Steps To Happiness
Name what makes you unhappy and change, what you can change.
Look inside you to find your source of unhappiness. Write all of these unhappy feelings down, that torment you and draw a conclusion. Whatever you find there, change what you can and accept what you can’t change.
Become thankful and appreciative of what you already have.
We mostly compare ourselves to the highlights of other peoples life on social media and then become discouraged and sad that we are not like the picture perfect people we consume daily. Start with you and stay with you, no comparisons needed. What are you thankful for?
Detect a passion of yours and pursue it.
Pursuing painting and music has helped me tremendously during my life. Not only was it very healing to sing and paint, it also strengthened my self-confidence. It makes you proud when you discover how you are good at something. What’s your passion? Go get it!
Take care of your body.
Exercise played a major role in finding back to my happy place. Taking control over my body, feeding it healthy foods, going to the gym and shaping it – that made me proud. I’m not a victim of my insecurities, I actively chased them away by working for the body I wanted. Instead of starving myself, I started to eat all the carbs that I wanted, by working out 3x a week. You can too!
Have a goal to look forward to.
Whatever it may be, having a goal keeps you focussed and on track. It gives you a feeling of purpose and direction. But remember, happiness doesn’t wait at the very end of the way, it’s always there for you to grab. It’s not only for winners, it’s on every step along your way.
